The Women's Union chapter in Thanh Khe District’s Thanh Khe Tay Ward has made fundraising appeals from generous donors and rich families in the locality to provide basic essentials including rice, eggs, milk, and install noodles to local poor families.

Mrs Le Thi Tuyet Van, Chairwoman of the Women's Union chapter in Thanh Khe Tay Ward, said her ward is now home to 142 families living below and near the city's poverty threshold, and 348 others in difficult circumstances.

She also said that most of residents in her ward are low-income earners who are hardest hit by the closure of non-essential businesses, including restaurants and hotels, during the coronavirus crisis. Hence, her organisation's members are trying to help them get through the pandemic.

55-year-old Nguyen Thi Xuan Huong, a landlord owning a rental property in Thanh Khe District’s Thac Gian Ward, has reduced rental fees for her tenants who are university students and low-income earners, and offered instant noodles and dried food to them.

Besides, some residents in Thac Gian Ward have visited and donated cash gifts to security personnel and medical workers who are staffing checkpoints around the city.

The Thac Gian Ward’s Women's Union chapter has also offered alcohol-based hand sanitizers, face masks, and essential goods to local low income earners as a way to share difficulties with them amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

In addition, members of the Chinh Gian Ward’s Women's Union chapter have donated 1,620 kilos of rice to 81 poor families. Also, 1,180 tonnes of rice, 118 soap bars and 590 cloth face masks have been given to low income families. Besides, 10 carton boxes of instant noodles have been offered to lottery ticket sellers in the locality.

Each of them received 500,000 VND in financial aid from the district's Fund for the Poor, and donations from generous domestic organisations and individuals.
