According the latest report by the city’s branch of the National Steering Committee on Combating Smuggling, Commercial Fraud, and Counterfeit Goods (Steering Committee 389), between January and June, the Da Nang authorities detected and dealt with a total of 5,456 cases of commercial frauds and the trading of fake, counterfeit, illegally smuggled, and poor-quality goods.  As a result, fines totalling over 105 billion VND were imposed on the violators.

Notably, despite the city authorities’ ceaseless efforts, the number of such cases is likely to continue its upward trend in the near future because offenders are using more deceptive and cunning tricks to avoid being spotted by relevant agencies.

Located on the North-South traffic axis, Da Nang is a convenient transit point for goods.  Most of the fake, counterfeit and poor-quality items are sourced from other localities nationwide, or illegally transported into the city from neighbouring countries.  Many violators have conducted their illegal smuggling activities via roads, railways, airways, waterways and seaports.

Amongst smuggled items are household utensils, fashion clothes, footwear, handbags, telephone accessories, marijuana, synthetic drugs, debauched cultural products and prohibited goods.

Between June and July, police officers in Hai Chau District recently detected and seized 34 sets of shisha, 40 boxes of tobacco and 25 e-cigarettes.  The staff of the municipal Market Management Bureau confiscated over 7,500 electric firecrackers which were sourced from China.  Also, 2 cars, namely Toyota Camry XLE and Toyota Camry Hybrid, worth about 1.8 billion VND in total, were recently seized.  The violators failed to submit any relevant documents to prove their products’ origin.

In addition to raising public awareness of the consequences of illegal trading activities, the municipal department of Customs, Police, Border Guards and Market Management will continue their efforts in the on-going fight against commercial frauds and the trading of fake, counterfeit, illegally smuggled, and poor-quality goods.
