Da Nang's ceasless efforts in raising funds for the poor
The Da Nang Fatherland Front Committee, in collabration with its chapters and the all-level authorities, has ceaslessly called on philanthropists to make contributions to the municipal Fund for the Poor in order to ensure stable livelihood for poor families, thereby maintain social welfare.

Da Nang Fatherland Front Committee Vice Chairman Duong Dinh Lieu said that, besides raising the Fund for the Poor, his agency has worked with other relevant units to identify poor familes that are in despertate need of support.
Heed has been paid to increasing interactions with the poor, helping them enhance livelihoods and expanding effective poverty-reducing models.
In Lien Chieu District, social welfare work has always been given a special attention. Chairman of Hoa Khanh Bac Ward Chapter of the Da Nang Fatherland Front Committee Nguyen Van Trung revealed that there are 82 families living near and below the city’s poverty threshold in the ward.
He added his organisation has directed the authorities of residential areas to encourge people to raise more for the Fund for the Poor. Till date, VND 291 million has been raised for the Fund for the Poor by Hoa Khanh Bac Ward Chapter, and it is expected to exceed this year’s target. The organisation is providing financial assistance for the repairing of 2 houses and the building of 1 new house for those in need.
Chairman of Lien Chieu district chapter of the Da Nang Fatherland Front Committee Pham Thi Hong Hanh remarked that, as of late May-2022, the district’s organisation had raised VND 733 million for the Fund for the Poor. Currently, 5 houses need to be built and 50 downgraded ones are in need of being repaired at a total cost of VND 1.25 billion.
In the upcoming time, the Lien Chieu District Chapter will continue to make more donations from philanthoropists and businesses to the Fund for the Poor, aiming to complete building new houses and reparing downgraded ones for poor families under the 2022 plan. Furthermore, efforts will be exerted to provide means of livelihood, loans and scholarships for the poor to escape poverty sustainably.
Meanwhile, the Fatherland Front Committee of Thanh Binh Ward, Hai Chau District has launched the “Five Million Dong” program under which each residental group and organisation is encouraged to raise VND 5 million a year for the poor.
In 2021, 53 out of the 62 residental groups in the ward contributed over VND 5 millon to the Fund for the Poor, including 3 residental groups with over VND 10 million, and their total contributions were worth nearly VND 373 million. In the first five months of 2022, Thanh Binh Ward’s Fund for the Poor attracted VND 380 million worth of donations.
Following recent approval by the ward chapter, five downgraded houses will be repaired at a total cost of VND 65 million. Four families will be provided with means of livelihood totalling VND 35 million, while a sum of VND 12 million worth of financial support will be given to 5 families that suffer sudden difficult.
In a similar vein, the Thien Tam Fund will grant scholarships, totalling VND 42 million, to poor students with good academic achievements.
Hai Chau District Chapter Vice Chairwoman Tran Thi Cuc Huong said that the organisation has raised over VND 5 billion to the Fund for the Poor and spent over VND 3.3 billion on building new houses and repairing downgraded ones, providing means of livelihood for poor people, and guaranting the district’s social welfare.
Vice Chairman Duong Dinh Lieu said that the focus will be on increasing public awareness about the fund for the poor, thereby creating high consensus in taking care for poverty-stricken residents and raising more for this fund.
