Plan for upgrading logistics infrastructure approved
The Da Nang authorities have approved a plan on logistics infrastructure development by 2030 with a vision towards 2045.
The plan aims to develop Da Nang into a major logistics hub in the central region, a transportation hub in the country, and the key gateway for the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC).
Accordingly, logistics centres in the city will together handle 25%, 30%, 35% and 55% of the total volume of cargo transported through the Da Nang Port by 2020, 2025, 2030 and 2045 respectively.
These centres will handle 10%, 15%, 20% and 40% of the total volume of air freight by 2020, 2025, 2030 and 2045 respectively, as well as 20% and 40% of the total volume of rail freight by 2030 and 2045 respectively.
The focus will be on ensuring synchronous transportation connections between seaports, roads, railways, airways and logistics centres, facilitating the smooth movement of goods on multilateral routes at competitive freight rates.
It is estimated that the city is in need of 13,695 billion VND in total for developing logistics services across the city.
In particular, appeals will be made for domestic and foreign investment into the construction of logistics centres in the city, whilst the costs for upgrading transportation infrastructure will come from the city budget.
In addition, a single railway line will be built to connect the Kim Lien cargo railway station with the soon-to-be-developed Lien Chieu Port, and the exisiting road systems will be upgraded. The construction costs of the projects will be funded by the national budget.
