Da Nang applies set of indicators to assess solid waste management capacity
The Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and the Environment collaborated with a representative of the “Clean Cities, Blue Ocean” Programme (CCBO) funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to evaluate the city's environmental protection work according to the set of indicators for assessing solid waste management capacity proposed by CCBO which has been applied in many advanced countries.

Accordingly, the aforementioned set of indicators includes 5 components: planning; legal policy; financial management; service provider; human resources; community connection.
The Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and the Environment and CCBO have agreed to evaluate Da Nang with an overall score of 86/100 according to the set of indicators.
Through the evaluation based on the set of indicators to assess the capacity of solid waste management, CCBO proposed the city to increase in the collection of recyclable trash and construction waste, head towards effective collection and transportation of post-sorting waste transported to the treatment area.
Da Nang has proposed CCBO to transfer the set of indicators to assess solid waste management capacity to apply assessment in districts across the city and give more support in terms of training on solid waste management, experience and techniques in construction and management of waste treatment zones, intelligent solid waste management models and technologies, and waste transfer station management.
CCBO is USAID’s global, flagship program for implementing the Save Our Seas 2.0 Act and reducing the estimated 11 million tons of plastic that flow into the ocean each year. By enhancing circularity in rapidly urbanizing areas of developing countries, Clean Cities, Blue Ocean is targeting a major source of ocean plastic pollution.
