A focus has been on finding suitable sites for new aircraft parking areas in time for the aircraft bringing the international guests to the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW 2017) in the city from 5 - 11 November.
Once the expansion of the apron area on the western side of the airport is complete, there will be a total of 43 aircraft parking spaces in total.

Also, the construction of the 3.5 trillion VND (158 million USD) international passenger terminal is now nearing completion. It is one of the city’s key projects in preparation for the upcoming AELW 2017.
As a part of that project, on 23 February work started on a VIP lounge area and this is expected to be put into use on 8 August. This facility is intended to serve any domestic and foreign high-level delegations passing through the airport, especially those attending AELW 2017.
