Visiting Hoa Bac in the middle of May, we were guided by local young to explore this beautiful place by bike, and experience community-based tourism. After crossing the cable-stayed bridge connecting the villages in Hoa Bac, our group reached the ecosystems along the both banks of the Cu De River in order to listen to stories about history and culture of our visiting sites by local residents, and learn more about farming practices here.
Ba Huong, a local young male resident, proudly said that one of the highlights of Hoa Bac is the picturesque rural landscape. He remarked that love for his hometown has inspired him to start a career in the place of his birth after graduating from university. Therefore, Huong decided to buy 60 bicycles to develop cycling tours in Hoa Bac in an attempt to promote the development of community-based tourism. Besides, he bought electric cars to pick up and drop off tourists from departing and arriving destinations.
Particularly, the Cu De riverbank has become a favourite place for young campers on weekends. After running along the Cu De River, the visiting group turned to a small winding road leading to green paddy fields and rough roads, some of our group were tired but their faces were radiant.
After continuing to pass through rice fields, our group reached the Nguon (Source) Village. We visited a homestay to participate in an exchange with locals, and organize a campfire at the end of the journey.
In the flickering light of the campfire, local people told their stories about how to develop tourism in their hometown. In addition, our group had the chance to try grilled potatoes and cassava which are locally-grown produce and sip sweet-smelling ‘Ruou Can Phu Tuc’ (rice wine drunk out of a jar through pipes).
Ms Do Thi Huyen Tram, the owner of Nam Yen Homestay stated that local people has known for tourism development after their hometowm developed eco-tourism. Hoa Bac is very attractive to domestic and international tourists as its charm come from the simplicity, friendliness and hospitality of local people, Ms Tram added.
Hoa Bac now sees a positive change day by day while local young people have the opportunity to start their own busineses in tourism in their hometown.
Hoa Bac boasts a boom in tourism, and it is expected to become new attraction in Da Nang for visitors from both home and abroad.
