Despite the crisis and the travel restrictions for passengers, Ryanair is strengthening its presence in France by basing two planes at Beauvais airport in Picardy.

Ryanair strengthens its presence in Beauvais (Picardy)

Ryanair is clearly not afraid of Flygskam, “the shame of flying”, a movement of Swedish origin against the use of the plane as a means of transport deemed too polluting. To mark the opening of its fourth base in France, in Beauvais (Picardie) on December 3, the low cost company is launching a new promotional campaign and tickets starting at 9.90 euros available until Friday, September 25.

“We are not going to apologize for stimulating demand and allowing people to travel with low prices,” said Jason McGuiness, the commercial director of the low cost company. At the beginning of September, the company had launched an even more aggressive campaign, offering flights at 5 euros one way, “for less than the price of a pint” read the slogan.

Two new destinations

Despite the crisis, it is therefore in France that the Irish company is pushing its pawns, strengthening itself on its original stopover. Since its arrival in Picardy in 1997, Ryanair has seen its traffic explode there, going from 80,000 passengers to 4 million! It is now a question of basing, from December 3, two Boeing 737-800 (for an investment of 217 million euros). Two new destinations, to Paphos (Cyprus) and Manchester (United Kingdom) will be added to the connections already served by the low cost. Around a hundred weekly flights already connect the cities of Barcelona, Dublin, Lisbon, Madrid and Milan, also with holiday destinations like Alicante, Bari, Faro or Thessaloniki, and city breaks like Krakow, Rome & Porto, argues management.
