Will rapid antigenic tests save air travel?
While waiting for the approval of an anti-Covid vaccine, airlines are arguing in favor of rapid antigenic tests to bring customers back on board thanks to “100% Covid free” flights.
The announcement of a 90% effective vaccine against Covid-19, November 9 has certainly given hope to the airlines – whose stock prices have soared -, however, it will still take time before air traffic takes off again. Hit hard by the second wave of the pandemic and the new containment measures around the world, the sector is still running 20 to 40% of its capacity.
From flights “100% Covid free”
Suddenly, it is to another lifeline that Air France, Lufthansa and even British Airways are clinging to: the generalization of antigenic tests for the rapid detection of Covid. Following the initiative launched in September by Alitalia between Rome and Milan, Lufthansa announced Thursday, November 12 its first “100% Covid Negative” flights.
